The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design.This Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. This specific 1970 Datejust Ref. 1601 is a unique variant, commonly referred to as the "Wide Boy" as the marker and hand configuration are much wider in look and design than the typical stick markers and baton hands more commonly found on Datejust references of the same era.

CASE & BRACELET

The strong case retains its factory finishing and dimensions, with light signs of use. The white gold fluted bezel remains unpolished and has achieved a wonderful oxidized patina. The original Rolex 6251H rolled-link Jubilee bracelet with 55 end pieces remains in excellent condition, displaying only moderate stretch for its style and age.

DIAL & HANDS

The beautiful silver sunburst "wide boy" dial is flawless. The tritium lume plots have taken on a lovely creamy patina, and show no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium "wide boy" hands are in excellent condition as well with matching tritium to the dial, under U.V. light inspection the hands exhibit no degradation or lume loss. The metallic date wheel is era correct with open 6's and 9's.
